I have been on the hunt for a kitchen runner. To be a bit more specific, a nonslip, machine washable kitchen rug runner. So, a lot more specific actually. I love the look of an Oushak rug in the kitchen but I just can’t understand how it is practical!? Our kitchen gets so gross and I just don’t get how people keep an authentic Oushak rug in their kitchen clean! On a good day, our floor is full of spilled milk, crushed up crackers and lord knows what else 🤦🏼♀️. If you have one and have insider information on how to keep a wool kitchen runner clean- please share!
So, since I felt an authentic Turkish Oushak rug wasn’t an option, I started searching for what would be. If you are on Instagram (follow me if you are!) then you have heard of Ruggable. Due to brand awareness, it was the first place I looked but unfortunately, none of them spoke to me for this particular space. I wanted the more faded vintage look and for it to be less busy. So, what did I find?
I was pleasantly surprised with how many nonslip machine washable kitchen rug runners fit the bill for what I was looking for. My biggest hang-up was how they looked in person. However, I was reluctant to buy something that wouldn’t work and then have to figure out how to return it. Well, after a few months of searching, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a runner off of Rugs USA, and to keep a long story short, I love it!
A review of our nonslip washable kitchen rug runner
When I first opened the box, it was a hard no. Like, almost didn’t even take it out of the plastic kind of hard no. You can tell that the pattern is screen printed on there and I just did not think that was going to work. BUT, when I laid it out, I was pleasantly shocked! It looks so real. And I’m only 5’2″, so if it looks real from my vantage point, it’ll look good from any vantage point. I will say, the pictures they have on their website do not do this rug justice. I took an up-close picture to show the color better, you can see it is much bluer than the pictures here look.
What Material is it? How did it wash?
The material is 100% polyester so I feel comfortable putting it through the washing machine often! In fact, I have already washed it and it came out looking brand new. I did not put it in the dryer so that the nonslip backing wouldn’t be ruined over time. Oftentimes, the rubber backing on rugs will melt when put in the dryer.
One major selling point now that I have the rug and have washed it is that it is all one piece. It has had toy motorcycles run over it, been picked up to shake out, and just moved in general from normal traffic of six people and I think the rugs that detach to clean would not fit our lifestyle. I imagine they would be hard to line up after washing etc.
I’m now thinking about doing roman shades on the windows that flank my range hood and using either this trim tape or this square design one.
Let me know if you try one of these nonslip machine washable kitchen rug runners that were featured! I would love to hear what you think about it.
